Kids Jiu Jitsu in Fullerton — Ages 5-8 and 8+

Kids Program

Most parents who bring a child here aren't looking for a fighter. They're looking for a kid who can handle themselves — who doesn't fall apart when something goes wrong, who can focus, who isn't easy to push around. That's what this program is built to produce. Kids start with us at age 5, in two groups: Little Kids (ages 5–8) and Kids/Teens (ages 8–13). From 14, they train with the adults

Program Description

What they're actually learning:

Jiu jitsu, taught properly. Positions, escapes, control, and how to stay calm when someone bigger is on top of you. It's real skill — a twelve-year-old who's trained here for a year can genuinely handle a situation most adults couldn't.

But the techniques aren't the point. They're the mechanism. What matters is what the process does to a kid.

Emotional control:

  • Jiu jitsu puts children in situations that feel overwhelming — pinned, stuck, losing — in a controlled setting where nothing bad actually happens. They learn, physically, that panic makes things worse and composure makes things better. That lesson transfers. Parents tell us their kid started handling frustration at home differently, or stopped melting down over small setbacks. It's the same skill.

Focus and follow-through:

  • Classes are structured. Kids listen, follow instruction, drill a technique step by step, and practice until it works. A five-year-old who couldn't sit still learns to pay attention because the thing in front of them is interesting and the coach expects it. That habit of finishing what you start shows up in school more than anywhere.

Resilience:

  • Progress in jiu jitsu is slow and honest. There's no faking it — either the technique works or it doesn't, and getting better takes weeks of trying. Kids learn that setbacks are normal, that persistence is what produces results, and that being bad at something on day one says nothing about day ninety. That's a hard lesson to teach any other way.

Confidence without aggression:

  • We don't teach kids to fight. We teach them to be difficult to intimidate, and to control a situation without escalating it. A child who knows they can handle themselves physically stops carrying fear around — and a kid who isn't afraid is far less likely to be a target, and far less likely to overreact when tested. Most kids who train here never need to use any of it. That's exactly the point.

The room:

  • Kids train alongside other kids who are also showing up, working, and improving. Effort is normal here. Respect is normal. The coaches — Adam and Luna at Fullerton — hold a real standard, and the kids know what's expected of them. The friendships that form in that kind of environment tend to be the good kind.

What you should know:

  • Ages 5–8 and 8+, separate classes — a six-year-old and a twelve-year-old need different things
  • No experience needed. Shorts and a t-shirt. No uniform to buy.
  • Your first class is free. Bring them, watch, and see how they take to it. No pressure afterward.
  • Parents are welcome to stay and watch every class, not just the first one.
  • We don't measure success by medals. Some kids compete; most don't. Both are fine.

Your first class is free
